Well, the vet left about 40 mins ago. This was my first time meeting her...and I was a tad bit surprised by her appearance. Let's see...I"m 5'6"...so she must have topped out at maybe 5'4"...and 130lbs. And this woman must smoke like a chimney. Jeez. The second she walked into the house I could smell it just pouring off of her. And she had the raspy smoker's voice...but who am I to judge? I've been a non-smoker for what...39 days now? I can't blame her.
Anyhoo, back to the visit. The first thing we had to do was weigh my dog, and in doing that, I had to take out the trusty ol' bathroom scale. She asked me if I wanted to hold my dog while I stepped on the scale, and then just subtract the weight.
I laughed. Hell no. I don't think the scale would even go up that high. So she stepped on...their combined weight was 230lbs...which meant I have a 70lb dog.
Yeah, we're both going for a walk as soon as I'm done posting. =)
The vet showed me how to fill the syringe, tap the bubbles out, grab a fold of fat on my dog's back (which there certainly was no shortage of, I might add), and give her the injection. I was squeamish at first...it took me a few seconds to gather the courage to do it...but I did.
It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. (Surprise Surprise...story of my life.)
Fortunately, I will only have to give her one shot a day, at dinner time. It's weird, but I'll get used to it. But, she needs to lose weight. Doc said she should be about 50lbs, so Scruffy and I (my dog...I don't think I've mentioned her name up to this point, have I?) are going to go for a 20 minute walk every morning before I go to work. God knows we could both use the exercise. =)
So, I'm feeling better. If you couldn't tell by my last post, when I'm down, I'm DOWN. Sometimes I find it really hard to shake that...especially at this time of year when we're lucky if we get to see the sun for a few minutes a week. Winter does that to me without fail. I think I have that SAD disease...Seasonal Affective Disorder, or something like that. I need to go out and by one of those phony sun lamps. =)
If you've stuck around this long, thanks for listening.
Scruffy and I are off for our walk...
